Notification of a traffic accident or vehicle breakdown is a driver's first thoughts. But what if you don't know the emergency number or there is no way at all. For this, various warning systems have been created for emergency services and drivers passing by.

What is the emergency call system for?

The first and main purpose of the emergency call system is to automatically signal that the driver or passengers need help. As a rule, emergency response services are notified. The use of an emergency call system on the car can significantly reduce the time to call the necessary services, as well as increase the likelihood of staying alive in severe accidents.

Many car manufacturers have begun to equip their cars with an emergency call system as mandatory starting from the basic configuration. The reason for this implementation was the laws of different states, many adopted a law on the mandatory presence of this system. As statistics show, in 95% of cases the system is triggered automatically, most often these are cases of severe accidents.

Variety from manufacturers

Every car manufacturer tries to improve the emergency call system as much as possible, making it versatile and as easy to use as possible. But as such, there is no standardization of the name for all manufacturers, each has its own.

As an example, the most popular manufacturers in their price lists call the system:

  • Ford - SYNC Emergency Assistance;
  • Peugeot calls the system Connect SOS;
  • Assist Advanced eCall from BMW;
  • Citroen - Localized Emergency Call.

The most advanced is the emergency call system from BMW (Assist Advanced eCall). It is able not only to automatically send a signal, but also to recognize the severity of an accident, based on indicators from various sensors and passive and active safety systems. The system is based on a GSM receiver that can work with various providers and types of networks. The disadvantage of this system is the direct connection with the car manufacturer's emergency call center.

Thus, in the event of an accident, the car will automatically send an SOS signal not to the emergency government service, but to the center of the car manufacturer. But still, Ford quickly realized the flaw in the system, corrected this situation and changed the firmware. In the logic of the SYNC Emergency Assistance emergency call system, engineers put in the first place contacting the public assistance service, if several attempts are unsuccessful, only then the system will send a signal to the center of the car manufacturer. In reality, communication with the services takes a few seconds, and the search is carried out very quickly. order, thus the consumer and not notice the difference.

The main directions of the emergency call system

As already mentioned, the main task of the emergency call system is to notify about an emergency situation of the car on the road. Depending on the situation, the signal can be different, it is a call or SMS.

In any of the options, the system will automatically transmit:

  • exact location of the vehicle;
  • vehicle speed;
  • deceleration in the event of an accident;
  • the exact number of passengers;
  • whether the car is overturned;
  • the number of airbags and belt pretensioners deployed.

This is not yet a complete list of what modern emergency call systems can transmit. Some manufacturers thought of the system to take photos from all-round cameras and transmit them to the server in case of an SOS signal. Thus, the service receiving the help signal can understand what kind of assistance the driver needs and which services should be used for this.

Some manufacturers have taught emergency call systems to calculate the urgency of assistance, the severity of the situation and at the same time establish a direct voice communication with the driver and passengers of the car.

In emergency situations, this system will be extremely necessary, an experienced driver will know what to do, but without experience, plus stress, the situation can only get worse.

How the emergency call system works and works

Many manufacturers are integrating an emergency call system into the car's navigation system. Depending on the type and complexity of the system, it can be activated manually from the car's interior, or the system can work on its own if it is not possible to activate it.

The most common emergency call system is voice communication. Communication takes place with the center of the car manufacturer or directly with government emergency services. In any of the options, the basis is GSM communication due to a built-in GSM receiver or a connected mobile phone to the car's multimedia system.

After establishing a connection, a specialist operator clarifies the situation and the severity of the damage. The operator also receives data on the location of the vehicle. The collected information is quickly transmitted to the necessary emergency services. In addition to the necessary services, the nearest medical institution is selected for the provision of medical care, corresponding to the severity of the injuries and the type.

BMW's emergency call systems are capable of transmitting images from all-round cameras and information about the condition of the car and passengers as accurately as possible. Thus, the operators of the company's center will understand the situation with maximum accuracy. In Russia, the mandatory implementation of this system has been introduced in accordance with the country's standards. The emergency call system should be implemented in the GLONASS navigation satellite system, this will allow to call traffic police officers and an ambulance in case of an accident.
