An article about subwoofers, the rules for their installation, different types and methods of their installation. Subwoofers enhance the bass in your car's sound system by enriching the sound.

For low frequencies, or simply "bass" in any speaker system, speakers are responsible, called subwoofers. It is imperative to make a reservation that the subwoofer does not replace low frequencies, but only complements the system, improving the bass.

By their structure, subwoofers are divided into two types: cabinet and open-type speakers. It is not hard to guess that the former have a body, while the latter do not. Continuing the hierarchy, cabinet subwoofers are divided into active (they have a built-in power amplifier and a crossover) and passive ones, which have neither an amplifier nor a filter. Therefore, these loudspeakers have very different costs. Nevertheless, active subwoofers do not always cost much more, because not very high-quality speakers are built into them.In addition, cabinet subwoofers have one more system of division into three types:

  1. Speaker in a closed box. There are no openings and outlets for warm air in such a device. As a rule, such columns are made in small sizes. They are installed in small cars. Small subwoofers have high fidelity sound, but their power is comparatively low.
  2. Bass reflex enclosure or hole. Such boxes are good because they have a phase inverter, which is responsible for the passage of warm air. The size, shape and location of the hole must be carefully calculated when designing the subwoofer, as an improperly assembled box will produce unpleasant hoarse sounds when bass is reproduced. According to experienced "soundmen", the bass reflex allows to increase the sound pressure and its depth. By the way, this type of subwoofer is one of the most used, because the quality of their sound is superior to other types of subwoofers.
  3. Speaker in a box with a bass reflex. This type of subwoofer is also called a "band pass box". It has such a device: the speaker is installed inside the case, and the sound itself comes out through the hole or bass reflex. For fans of humming bass, such a sub is ideal. This type of bass amplifier is most often made for external beauty, therefore, as a rule, they have poor technical characteristics.

The power of a bass amplifier depends on the diameter of the speakers it is equipped with. The smallest subwoofer usually has an 8 "speaker, and the largest has a 15" speaker. The average motorist usually chooses a 10 "x 12" speaker.

It is customary to install low frequency amplifiers in the rear of the car body, that is, in the trunk. Correct placement of the subwoofer will affect the final sound of the system. Also, medium sized subs are placed under the back seat.

Subwoofers saturate the low frequencies for a deeper, richer sound in your car. Powerful amplifiers “pump” the interior so that people who are next to the car feel the lows.
