BMW has unveiled a new compact sedan concept. According to the manufacturer, the car will compete with Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

The auto show in Guangzhou showed quite a few innovations, but one of the main ones was the concept of a compact sedan from BMW. Not one of the series of cars produced by BMW did not include this concept, calling it just a four-door compact sedan.

BMW did not discuss technical details, but everyone expected it to be the first front-wheel drive sedan to compete with Audi and Mercedes.

While the A3 and CLA are front-wheel drive, BMW has chosen to stick with the old one. So the compact sedan used the rear-wheel drive base that was previously used in the 1-Series. But it still makes it a little difficult, as the use of such a drive will affect the space for passengers in the rear seats.

But still, if you dig deeper, we will see that the Bavarians also used the Active Tourer modification previously known on the 2-Series and X1 crossover. From some sources, it became known that the sedan is being tested on high-speed tracks and in the harsh climatic conditions of Scandinavia. According to leading BMW engineers, this sedan will debut and go on sale in a year.

Coming back to the concept, little can be said about its size, since no information is provided. Therefore, it can in no way be compared with the 1 or 2-Series models. But from the presented concept, one should not expect less than 4.5 meters. Both the X1 and the 2 Series Active Tourer have a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, which is very impressive for any compact class car. The UKL platform has been seen so often on different BMWs that there is nothing to say about the future engine. Thus, one can expect a turbocharged (sometimes biturbo) engine with a volume of 1.5 or 2.0 liters, which can produce from 95 to 231 hp, in some cases even 300 hp, on class M models. According to rumors, the system may be installed XDrive, which will compete with 4Matic or Quattro systems respectively.

BMW's designers have gone to great lengths to create this compact sedan, despite the fact that it has not yet been assigned to one of the series. The front and rear are even more austere than the recognizable features of the 1-Series models. The cab interiors and trim are reminiscent of features from previously known BMW models. The concept also featured leather trim from Nappa. Have iDrive controller, display 8.8 been spotted as well? with a wide range of features and configurations.

I would like to say that the designers have embodied in this compact sedan both all the qualities of a comfortable sedan and the qualities of a sports compact car. Indeed, on first inspection of a BMW, it reminds of compactness and sportiness.
