The pioneer of the coupe-like crossover style was the Infiniti FX, first introduced back in the early and then in the mid-2000s. Later the model was renamed QX70. Back in 2017, it was decided to withdraw the model from production, and only now, three years later, the new Infiniti QX55 is being brought to the automotive market again. Although he is not a direct heir to the model, he has a lot in common.
The basis for the new Infiniti QX55 was the previously known QX50, where the engine is located transversely to the body. Front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive is connected by means of a clutch. Despite the same foundation, the new QX55 crossover has changed in size.

Yet the width and wheelbase of the Infiniti QX55 have not changed and are the same as its predecessor. As a result, the new crossover has become a direct competitor to the Audi Q5 Sportback and the new BMW X4. The exterior design turned out to be very unusual; according to the manufacturer, this is the style of Japanese reliability and minimalism. Young people will most likely be the main target audience.
The front of the new Infiniti Cu X 55 is made in the style of the company. Large, open radiator grille with wide chrome surround, LED optics, an additional grille at the bottom of the bumper and massive air intakes. The side and rear are the most eye-catching features. In particular, this is a smoothly sloping roof and rear pillars. It is not yet known why the designers tightened the rear pillars and the roof so much, but it looks modern and not quite standard for the company. All this is underlined by a pair of aluminum rails for attaching an additional trunk and an antenna in the form of a shark fin.
Following the roof and gently sloping rear window, the hind feet draw attention, with pronounced sectors on the sides. As before, most of the stops are located on the body of the car, and some are smaller on the trunk lid. This whole set is accentuated by a sporty rear bumper, with a black plastic insert and a pair of exhaust tips. At the heart of the Infiniti Ku X 55 crossover, 20 ″ alloy wheels are installed as standard, although they were previously an option in the QX50.
To open the trunk from the outside, just click on the triangular nameplate. This approach is made to make the rear look cleaner, without unnecessary bends and details. The appearance of the Infiniti QX55 crossover has changed significantly, and is almost unique. As for the interior, here it is exactly like the older brother QX50.
With the changes to the new Infiniti QX55, we can only mention new combinations of interior trim, in particular colors and materials. The dashboard received analogue scales, but two large displays are installed in the center of the front console. By the way, the designers decided to leave the physical buttons without transferring to touch controls, which means comfort comes first.
The official presentation of the new crossover Infiniti Ku X 55 took place in the USA. For the North American market, the car's equipment looks great. By standard, the list includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, the multimedia system simultaneously supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Security systems include automatic braking, pedestrian indication, blind spot monitoring, monitoring the area behind the car, warning the driver about leaving the lane. One interesting option included in the list of systems is ProPilot Assist, which is essentially an autopilot while driving on the highway.
As before, the Infiniti Ku X 55 crossover is designed for two rows of seats, with the same seat adjustment. The downside was the size of the luggage compartment, which became smaller due to the slope of the roof. It can now hold 762 liters, up from the earlier 895 liters in the QX50. Folding the second row of seats, we get 1532 liters (previously it was 1699 liters). The backrest of the second row of seats folds in a 60/40 ratio.
What did the crossover get in terms of technical characteristics? A sporty look went to the suspension, McPherson struts are installed in front, multi-link independent suspension at the rear. Perhaps that's all, since the 2.0-liter engine with combined injection came from the same QX50. Unit power 272 HP and 380 Nm of torque.
The crossover drive is only full, where the main front axle, and the rear is connected using a multi-plate clutch and electrical control. The Infiniti QX55 transmission is CVT only. As for the price, while the company representatives are in no hurry to name it. Most likely, they will open it closer to the start of sales. According to various sources, the car will arrive at dealerships in the second half of spring 2021. As for other countries, the Infinity Cu X 55 should be expected no earlier than the second half of 2021.
